What is in the file
Typical hoop sizes. Your machine's real sewing field is in its manual.
What this viewer shows you
Embroidery files are lists of stitch positions and commands, so you cannot tell much from the file name. This viewer reads the file in your browser and draws it the way a machine would sew it: stitch by stitch, colour block by colour block.
- Size. Width and height in millimetres and inches, so you can see whether it fits your hoop.
- Stitch count. The number of actual stitches, which drives sewing time and thread use.
- Colour changes. How many thread changes the machine will ask for.
- Jumps and trims. Moves without stitching, and thread cuts. Many trims make a design slow to sew.
- Longest stitch. Very long stitches can loop or snag, and some machines cannot sew them.
Supported file types
- DST (Tajima): the most widely accepted format, especially on commercial machines. It does not store thread colours.
- PES (Brother and Baby Lock): stores the stitches and colour blocks, shown here with the matching thread colours.
- EXP (Melco): stitches only, like DST.
Other formats such as JEF or VP3 are not supported here. If your machine needs one, open the file in your machine's software.
Questions
Is my embroidery file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened by your browser on your own computer and is never sent to a server, so you can check files from customers or clients privately.
Why do DST and EXP files show made-up colours?
These formats do not store thread colours, only where the machine should stop for a colour change. The viewer gives each colour block a different colour so you can tell them apart. Your machine asks you to choose the real threads.
Why does the stitch count differ from my software?
Programs count stitches slightly differently, for example whether jumps and trims are included. This viewer counts real stitches only, not jumps, trims or colour changes.
Can I edit the file here?
No, this is a viewer. To make a new design you can use the appliqué generator or the lettering designer, which build the stitch files for you.
A file will not open. What should I check?
Make sure it ends in .dst, .pes or .exp and is a real stitch file, not a picture or a zipped folder. A damaged download can also fail. Try downloading it again.
